We were interested in this succinct recap on the mortgage situation from syndicated columnist Kenneth R. Harney, “On Mortgages, Strict is the Rule,” which was published in Sunday’s Seattle Times, among other places.
Harney makes the point that instead of relaxing as the economic situation improves, lenders seem to be continuing their vigilance. Borrowers need to come to the table with very strong (750+) FICO scores, very substantial (20+ percent) down payments and, alas, a backlog of patience, as mortgage closings seem to be stretching ever-closer to two months.
